ABOUT UMAI MI

The name is the combination of Japanese words umai (delicious) and mi (taste), a phrase that originates from the early 1900's. Used to describe the 'fifth taste', the moreish combination of sweet, sour, salty and bitter.

Over the last few decades, the phrase umami has been applied to many different cuisines and palates, referencing the crave-able flavour. Umai Mi is everywhere – examples ranging from mushrooms, roasted tomatoes, seafood, dry-aged meats, cheeses & fermented products.

Once the blend of the profound flavours coats your tongue, it will leave you longing for the next bite. Simply put, our mouths have taste receptors for Umai Mi, which leaves a lingering, savoury & moreish sensation.
